Lech Zurs Ski Resorts.
Lech consists of a number of different districts: Dorft, Anger Omesberg, Tannberg, Strass, Studenbach. Oberlech, Zurs And Zug. The main districts, are Lech, Oberlech and Zürs. Lech and Oberlech are close to each other, while Zurs is about 4km away. Lech is a full-fledged town with more nightlife and shopping than Zürs.
Skiing Lech Zurs.
Either Lech or Zürs would qualify for ski resort status by themselves. However, as the lift passes cover the entire Arlberg, it means Lech and Zurs are part of one of the best ski resorts inAustria.
Skiing Lech.
In Lech, skiing is centered on the Oberlech region. This section of the mountain can be easily reached by a cable car and two chair lifts from the centre of Lech. A system of 16 lifts takes skiers further up to 7,799 feet. This area will keep an intermediate busy for two days, and off piste skiing will challenge experts.
Skiing Zurs.
Zürs is a bit tougher as far as marked pistes go. All the pistes from the top of the Trittkopf, 2,423m are rated intermediate, experts skiers can make their own trails straight into town.
The Madloch side of the valley has six long intermediate pistes and three long beginner pistes. However, you can ski almost anywhere on this side.
The White Ring is a three-hour circuit that takes you around both sides of the valley, connecting Lech, Zug, Oberlech and Zürs, it is one of the great runs of the area. Take the lifts to the Madloch Joch, 2,438m and then ski the intermediate red piste, Madloch-Lech run 56 around the back into Lech. To complete the circle, take the cable car from the middle of Lech to Rüfikopf and ski down and across to the base of the Hexenboden lift and then to Zürs. For Zug, detour off the Madloch and then come back up on the Zugerberg lifts. From there, it’s a red-rated (intermediate) cruise down into Oberlech.
The ski resorts of Oberlech, Zürs and Lech can be easily skied together, but require a taxi or bus ride from the centre of St Anton. There is no on-ski connection between St. Anton and Zürs or between Stuben and Zürs. However when conditions allow, experienced skiers with guts and accompanied by a guide, can reach Zürs by the north face desent off the back of the Valluga.
The Villages of Lech Zurs.
Oberlech.
Oberlech which is one of the Lech satellite villages is only accessible by cable car and is described by the local tourist board as the “ski resort of the future”. This is because the only way in and out is on foot, on skis or on the lifts.
Small and contained, lift ticket sales are limited so the slopes never get too busy. Oberlech features hotels and restaurants which are connected by a series of tunnels that keep the mundane deliveries of luggage and supplies completely out of sight.
Zurs.
Zürs, only minutes up the valley, is a compact cluster of only 25 buildings, mostly luxury hotels. When celebrities go skiing in Austria, this is where they often stay.
Thanks to their location at the end of the valley and their exclusive air, Lech and Zürs have shorter lift lines and less crowded slopes than the St. Anton side of the Arlberg. From any hotel it’s less than a few minutes’ to the nearest lift and from there you can reach the four resorts.
Zug.
Lech’s other satellite, Zug, is a tiny, quaint village hidden away down a tree-lined lane and is perfect for families with small children and those seeking peace after 21:00 p.m. It is not a ski-in, ski-out area except for experts.
