Waldhotel
Before Davos became a ski resort, the clear mountain air helped convalescing tuberculosis sufferers, who stayed in large sanatoriums. Today the sanatoriums are plush hotels such as the slick four-star Waldhotel. Located in a peaceful location above Davos on the edge of a forest, it’s slightly remote but offers a free shuttle service. Bedrooms are large with great views, there’s a good-sized Wellness area with a swimming pool overlooking the mountains and an excellent restaurant, Mann und Co.

Staying in Davos needn’t be expensive – these simple but well-equipped apartments are located near the bars, restaurants and shops and ski bus stop. There’s a restaurant and bar in the apartment block, parking facilities and you can order fresh bread rolls to be delivered to the reception area each morning.

Tivoli Lodge, Davos Dorf
Luxury chalet provider Descent has two chalets in Klosters as well as the new, über-luxurious Tivoli Lodge in Davos. This large yet discreet ski-in/ski-out chalet is a three-minutes (chauffeured) drive from Davos Dorf, sleeps up to 16 people and has its own cinema and a spa complex comprising a large indoor pool, waterfall, hot tub and relaxation area.

Chesa Grischuna
This is a beautifully frescoed old chalet in the centre of Klosters and rooms successfully combine local wood carvings, paintings and antiques with modern amenities. Service is genuinely warm and friendly and chef Manfred Möller creates consistently excellent food, with an emphasis on locally-sourced game, venison and fish. The family which owns Chesa Grischuna also runs a separate, cheaper guesthouse (Chalet Grischuna) across the road.
