Only the eternal darkness of early winter prevents the slopes being open right the way through from October until June. Riksgränsen ski season does not really get started until February when there is sufficient daylight hours. By midsummers's day, the end of the season, the sun wll not have set for over a month.

Riksgränsen, the world's northernmost ski resort, 200km north of the Arctic Circle, is known principally for its extensive off-piste skiing and actually lists the most important of them on its trail map.

Getting There:
Kiruna: 130km (81 miles).
Domestic flights between Stockholm and Kiruna.
Taxi and bus service avaiable.
Riksgränsen to Narvik; 50km (31 miles).
